Ressence Type 3 - watch for oilers.
Belgian designer Benoît Mintiens showed at Baselworld the third version of Ressence watch. The peculiarity of this watch is that the space between clock face and the convex sapphire glass is filled with oil, which makes an impression that the time is displayed directly on the convex glass. This optical effect happens due to the fact that the index of refraction of oil is similar to the one of the sapphire glass.
The special membrane separates the indication module and the machismo prevents the oil from penetrating into the mechanism, so there is no need to worry about it. The designer took into account that the liquid has an ability to amplify or converge depending on the temperature. So he equipped the timepiece with the thermostatic valve that allows to avoid the problems concerning a change in volume.
Rewinding, date and time adjustment are realized without the clock winder. This watch doesn’t have it. It is substituted by the revolvable case on the backside. The system of rewinding and adjustment is activated when turning the watch upside down. Thus, a special gravity gear activates the adjustment mode.
